An AI coding agent, built using Cursor and powered by Anthropic’s flagship Claude ai model, deleted an entire production database and its backups in just nine seconds. The action was executed through an API call on Railway.
No confirmation. No staged approval. No recovery.
At first glance, it sounds like the kind of story that gets labeled as “AI gone rogue.” But that framing is convenient and misleading.
